BTCCSquare news:

Chinese officials are reportedly using malware known as Massistant to extract personal data from seized smartphones without warrants. The software, developed by Xiamen Meiya Pico, mines SMS messages, images, audio files, videos, and GPS location data. The firm controls 40% of China's digital forensics market.

Reports from local forums suggest the malware has been in use since at least 2020, with citizens discovering suspicious software after police interactions. Travelers and business visitors to mainland China may be particularly vulnerable, as authorities can demand smartphone access, risking exposure of sensitive data.
